Psychiatry

Psychiatry is the study and treatment of mental illness, emotional disturbance, and abnormal behavior.A medical doctor with special training in psychiatry is called a psychiatrist. Unlike other mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counselors, psychiatrists must be medically qualified doctors who have chosen to specialize in psychiatry. This means they can prescribe medication as well as recommend other forms of treatment.

Addiction

Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g. alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g. gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continued use/act of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary life responsibilities, such as work, relationships, or health. Here are no specific causes of any addiction aside from use of a substance or activity, and there is no way to predict who will become dependent on use.

Violence

Encountering a patient with an injury due to potential interpersonal violence can be a challenging experience for trauma professionals. Beyond addressing the physical injury, navigating a situation with a patients safety in the balance as well as legal implications can be complex. Though the term interpersonal violence is used in professional circles, often medical co-workers use the term domestic abuse when talking with each other.

Suicidal Tendencies

Suicidal ideation is more common than completed suicide. Most persons who commit suicide have a psychiatric disorder at the time of death. Because many patients with psychiatric disorders are seen by family physicians and other primary care practitioners rather than by psychiatrists, it is important that these practitioners recognize the signs and symptoms of the psychiatric disorders (particularly alcohol abuse and major depression) that are associated with suicide.

When your brain is damaged, it can affect many different things, including your memory, your sensation, and even your personality. Brain disorders include any conditions or disabilities that affect your brain.

Fear And Depression

Current research suggests that depression is caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors. While it may occur at any age, it often begins in adulthood. As with many anxiety disorders, depression in children and adolescents may present itself as irritability more than low mood. By adulthood, depression shows up as hopelessness, despair and anger. With a low energy level, afflicted individuals often feel overwhelmed by the day-to-day tasks and personal relationships fundamental to life.
